Globe HG Geminon 41-Inch Drop-Down Longboard Review

With a total length of 41 inches and a symmetrical deck, the Globe HG Geminon  Drop Down Longboard is a popular offering by the prominent longboard makers, Globe. The deck slightly slopes down creating  a concave shape for rider’s feet while not directly dropping down like other boards such as the 39 inch Atom Longboard Micro Drop.

The deck of the Geminon Drop Down is made out of maple and a special Globe produced Blue Diamond bottom sheet which creates an extra stiff deck. Stock, this board comes with 180 mm Slant Reverse Kingpin trucks, 72mm 78A wheels, and Abec 7 bearings.

This combination of great quality components creates a board that many beginner and intermediate riders love. One highly recommended addition is the replacement of the Abec 7 bearings with Bones Super Red Bearings for only $20 more.

While riding this board, the crew noticed a couple things that helped the experience. For one, this board on average stays closer to the ground which gives it high stability at all speeds.

This also means that on roads with a lot of debris and large rocks this board is not ideal but if you prefer riding on those types of roads a different longboard or mountain board such as the Atom 95X might be better for you.

When going downhill, this board takes slightly longer to pick up speed than higher mounted boards but it still achieves the same top speed minus the speed wobbles because of the lower deck.

Because the deck isn’t as sharply lowered as other boards such as the Yocaher Drop Down Longboard, sliding on this board is slightly harder. The griptape helps with this however, keeping riders feet fully secure through the duration of the slide.

One nice addition that some riders noticed was that the wheels came soft enough to absorb some vibration from the road providing a smooth and steady ride throughout. When asked about the ideal scenario for this board, riders universally said curvy downhill runs.

This indicates that the primary use for this board lies in its excellent carving ability and stability when going on fast downhill runs. One afterthought with this board was its ability to do tricks. With its symmetrical deck, the Globe HG Geminon drop down longboard proved to be perfect for free riding and tricks.

With the lower deck comes higher stability and easier slides which helps less experienced riders enjoy this board to a full extent. The Globe Geminon does take slightly longer to pick up speed than other boards but the stability at top speeds more than makes up for it.
