A true vision of an electric longboard, the Boosted Dual 1500W has the entire package. The board looks beautiful with barely noticeable bulges near each of the trucks and the orange color scheme makes sure you’re easily seen when cruising down the streets. And, with all of the components made in California and held to high standards, you can ensure that the entirety of the board is constructed with high quality materials. The deck, taken from the Loaded Vanguard, is constructed entirely out of bamboo and gives a little flex to the board when you stand on it.
With aesthetics aside, the Boosted Electric Skateboard displays similar great qualities in its specifications. The Boosted 1500W Electric Skateboard has a motor each for the back wheels which gives it a top speed of 20 mph and a range of 7 miles when traveling at 16 mph. Of course, you can a longer range when traveling slower but because this board only takes 1 hour to fully recharge often that’s not necessary. As an added bonus, this board uses regenerative braking, so every time you brake you will actually gain more power and a longer range. Sounds great if you’re in a hilly area right? With this board’s 1500 watts of power, it can conquer hills up to a 20% grade. In our experience when riding the board around, this proved more than enough to conquer any hill in our area.
A small handheld controller is used to change the speed and apply braking to this board. A thumbwheel is used to accelerate or brake while a LED display eliminates range anxiety by constantly displaying how much range is left on the board. A strong Bluetooth connection between the remote and the Boosted board ensure that the rider has constant control using the controller. Here at Review Longboards, the crew found that using the remote came easily and Boosted themselves provides enough help with the tutorial section of their website to aid anybody who has difficulty adjusting to it.
All of the high quality parts of this electric skateboard show in the ride quality. It moves across pavement exactly like a traditional Loaded board without the need for pushing. Riders found that the deck gives the board enough flex to allow them to shift their weight the slightest bit and have the board respond. This made carving down hills and back uphill with the powered acceleration a breeze. It was definitely a unique experience carving back up a hill we had just ridden down and not having to push once. The similarities between this electric skateboard and a traditional longboard continue with sliding. The crew at Review Longboards tried sliding and each member was able to make successful slides with only slight modifications in technique. While the slides proved useful for braking, the braking on the remote was seamless. By gently applying the brake and slowly increasing it, we were able to slow down and stop the board whenever we wanted without resorting to foot braking. One quirk involved with using the regenerative braking is that the battery must be run down a little before activating the brakes. This simply means that you have to ride around on flat or uphill roads for 5 minutes before using the braking feature. All aspects combined, the Boosted 1500W Electric Skateboard felt like electric skateboarding done right. It is made with high quality components, has a low charging time, and more importantly, feels like a regular longboard. There are some negatives to this board though including the high price, the distance limit of 7 miles, and the fact that the entire board weighs 15 pounds.
