Making a name for themselves by attempting to carve their space in the cheap longboard market, Krown Longboards makes a number of best-selling longboards. While usually not top of the line longboards, the Krown brand is well known for creating some very effective and low cost boards which are perfect for beginners.
Krown Overview
Krown is primarily known for it’s line of pintail longboards, several of which are reviewed below. The Krown Pintail boards are always easy to spot because their vibrant deck designs and colors can be seen from far away. They certainly believe a key element of making a good longboard is making it look good and I personally agree.
Almost all of Krown’s longboards are made out of Canadian maple which provides a strong base for the trucks and wheels. One advantage/disadvantage of Canadian maple depending how you look at it is the stiffness. While this means the board will easily survive a couple of hard bail outs, there is not that much flex to many of their longboards.
Below we delve into what we believe are the top 4 Krown longboards available today. These boards are best sellers in the longboard market and by evaluating them, we can evaluate the brand as a whole.

Krown Maple 43” Pintail

With a deck made out of Canadian maple, the Krown Maple Pintail board features a stiff deck and sturdy construction. Rounding out the package with 6 inch silver trucks and small black 65mm 78A wheels, this board is clearly designed for cruising and carving.
The classic pintail shape allows this board to make sharp curves but don’t attempt to go above 30 mph on this board. The pintail shape limits the top speed of this board by giving riders speed wobbles quickly.
Overall the Krown Maple 43” Pintail is clearly a cruiser with just enough flexibility to make some hard carves. If you are interested in simply riding around and learning how to ride on a longboard, this krown longboard is a good choice. For more advanced riders, see below for other options from Krown.
Krown Rasta Freestyle

The Krown Rasta Freestyle features wheel wells on both ends of the deck ensuring that wheelbite is never a problem for riders attempting sharp curves. The deck is again made out of maple creating a stiff deck and is supplemented by 7” Black Reverse Kingpin trucks and white 71mm 78A wheels.
The Reverse kingpin trucks are especially important on this board because, as detailed in our longboard trucks guide, RKP trucks allow much greater flexibility and increase the capability to do hard turns than regular trucks.
This board is also shorter than the Krown Maple Pintail with a total length of 38”. The short length allows riders to easily do tricks on this board.
For riders who want to get into tricks, like carving, or even want to start sliding, there only few boards as affordable as the Krown Rasta Freestyle.
Krown Krex 2

Another popular Krown longboard and the first board exclusively made for downhill, the Krown Krex 2 is popular and for good reason. The deck is made out of a mix of maple and bamboo which gives the deck a little bit of flex unlike the other Krown boards shown here.
It is a top mount board which means that the top of the trucks are mounted directly to the bottom of the deck. While this isn’t the most stable configuration(drop through trucks such as the Atom Drop Through are in my personal belief), top mounted boards can make sharper turns without the possibility of wheel bite.
The Krown Krex is primarily made for carving and light downhill and of each of the boards reviewed, is probably one of the best at downhill that Krown offers. With a length of 41 inches, the board is stable when going down hills and yet short enough to remain maneuverable.
For a great mix of downhill and carving at a very cheap price, the Krown Krex cannot be beat. As an added bonus, it comes with clear griptape already applied so your feet stay on the board while also allowing you to stare at the top design.
Krown Sunset City Surf

Another classic pintail shape among krown longboards, the Krown Sunset City Surf displays much of the same characteristics as the Krown Maple does. The deck is again made out of Canadian maple, (sensing a pattern here?) which creates a stiff deck.
This board is actually longer than the Krown Maple with a length of 46” which is unusually long for a pintail shape. What this means is that the rider does not have to push as much and the board will continue forward for longer. The longer length also leads to more stability for the rider.
Before with the Krown Maple, we said not to go over 15- 20 mph, but with the Krown Sunset City Surf, you can reasonably go around 20 – 25 because the extra length helps the board go faster and remain stable longer.
If you want to go faster than that, any longboard with a pintail shape is not for you. The Krown Sunset City Surf has much the same target market as the Maple longboard does.
